Class of 2023 ... Peregrine Style!
May 19, 2023, was a big day for the four peregrine falcon chicks at Mayo Clinic. They were plucked from their nest box atop the Mayo Building in downtown Rochester to receive their health check-up, identification bands and names. More than 250 guests attended the live event and thousands of others watched the ceremony online.
You can enjoy the recording of the event, including a bird’s eye view of the defensive maneuvers of the peregrine parents, Hattie and Orton, on the Mayo Clinic Peregrine Falcon Program web page. Scroll down the page and click on the “Banding Day” tab to see all the excitement.
Banding, names and more
On Banding Day, Jackie Fallon and the Mayo team retrieved the chicks from the top of the Mayo Building and transported them to an auditorium where they were weighed, banded, given a quick health exam and officially named. This year, the falcon team received more than 3,400 suggestions from 883 fans around Mayo Clinic and the world.
The chicks are growing fast so be sure to keep up with their progress on the website and Facebook page .
