Mayowood is a rural estate, approximately 20 minutes by car from downtown Rochester.

Living RoomDr. Charles H. (Charlie) Mayo and his wife, Edith, built Mayowood in 1911, extending the estate to more than 3,000 acres that included a man-made lake, greenhouses and several working farms. Their son, Dr. Charles W. (Chuck) Mayo and his wife, Alice, made many improvements to the home until their deaths in the late 1960s. Mayowood is filled with elegant furnishings from both generations’ extensive travels.

In a collaborative project, Mayo Clinic, the History Center of Olmsted County and Rochester Master Gardeners are restoring Mayowood with enhancements to the house and grounds that continue the Mayo family’s tradition of hospitality.

Enjoy this multi-media presentation, covering 50-plus years of family life at Mayowood and the recent restoration project.
