A New Season in the Nest
Rochester’s resident pair of peregrine falcons has been making regular visits to the nest box this month, signaling the start of another nesting season.
With the falcon cam now live, viewers can enjoy a front-row view as the falcons gear up for the months ahead. Below is a general timeline of what to expect during the nesting season. February–March
Adult falcons are active in the area, and territorial disputes may occur if multiple adults compete for the nest box.
Mid- to Late March
An adult pair typically claims the nest box. If all goes well, the first egg is usually laid around March 30. Peregrines lay between two and four eggs. Both adults help tend the nest, though the female handles most of the incubation while the male takes on most of the hunting.
Early May
Eggs hatch approximately 33–35 days after they are laid.
Mid- to Late June
Falcon chicks fledge, making their first flight attempts. While parents and young remain in the area, they may appear less frequently on camera.
